Marilyn Nelson
Marilyn Nelson, a professor of English at the University of Connecticut, was named the Connecticut Poet Laureate in 2001. Her poetry publications include Carver: A Life in Poems, For the Body, Mama’s Promises, The Homeplace, Magnificat, and The Fields of Praise: New and Selected Poems, and two collections of verse for children. In 1990 Marilyn received a Connecticut State Arts Award. Her book The Homeplace won the 1992 Annisfield-Wolf Award and The Fields of Praise won the 1998 Poets’ Prize. She has twice been a finalist for a National Book Award.
