  • Lyn Miller-Lachmann

Lyn Miller-Lachmann is the editor-in-chief of MultiCultural Review and the author of numerous books and articles on cultural diversity in literature and education. She has also written a young adult novel and in 1986 founded an independent press to publish books for teens on controversial social and political issues.

Miller-Lachmann received the 1993 Denali Press Award from the American Library Association, given to the outstanding reference title on cultural diversity in the United States, for her bibliography Our Family, Our Friends, Our World: An Annotated Guide to Significant Multicultural Books for Children and Teenagers. She is also the author of Global Voices, Global Visions, a guide to multicultural books for general adult readers, and most recently the editor of Once Upon a Cuento, an anthology of short fiction by Latino authors, published by Curbstone in 2003. Her novel Dirt Cheap, about a first-year teacher who joins with the father of one of her students to investigate and expose a toxic landfill near the school, is forthcoming from the same press. She has published short stories, poetry, and essays in a variety of print and online literary journals.

Active in human rights, environmental, social justice, and peace groups since the mid-1970s, Miller-Lachmann participates in regular vigils through the Saratoga Peace Alliance. On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, she teaches seventh and eighth graders in a Jewish religious school, where she has written plays in collaboration with her students. Her experience there served as the foundation for her first solo effort, "Murder on the Campaign Trail," a satire inspired by the final Senate campaign of Paul Wellstone. She grew up in Houston, Texas and has lived in the New York City metropolitan area, Madison, Wisconsin, and upstate New York. She is married to Richard Lachmann, a sociologist, and is the mother of Derrick and Maddy Lachmann.
