    AUTHOR

A native of El Paso, Texas, poet Edgar Silex calls upon his Native, Chicano and European heritages in his writing. Silex holds a BA and MFA from the University of Maryland, he was won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and The Maryland State Arts Coucil. He currently teaches at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Mr. Silex says he writes poetry because he believes that "forgiveness is our highest form of love, awe is our only muse...displacement is our human inheritance, passion is our only freedom...and poetry is our most constant state." Of his work, Luis Rodriguez writes, "There are mountains, colors, dirt, sky and music in Silex's poems. There appears to be an ancestral hand feeding him the words. These poems are a spiritual compass..."
